JA New York: What inspires your designs?
Jocelyn Prestia from Unhada: When I really stop to think about that question, there are elements everywhere that inspire my designs. Architecture, cultures, colors, the world around me, etc. However, I would say that Unhada has three main inspirations that seem to repeatedly pop up. These are; fairy tales, my time living in Asia and antique jewelry. The combination of these makes for an interesting aesthetic.
JA New York: Walk us through your design process…
JP: There are different paths I take when designing. Because I am gem obsessed, sometimes I find the stone first and envision the world (setting) it should live in. Other times I come up with a general theme or a single idea and revolve the piece around that.
JA New York: What was your favorite part about exhibiting in the New Designer Gallery at the July 2015 show?
JP: Since it was Unhada’s first show, seeing the reaction to the line was truly amazing. We got such a wonderful response and I think even more, people seemed to really understand what the line was about-right down to the little details.
JA New York: If a theme song played every time you walked into a room, what would it be?
JP: Oh man! I can’t wait to see what everyone else thought up for this one! Should be fun. I would have to say something from Bebel Gilberto. Her music is kind of feminine, kind of exotic, laid back with some energy…Sums me up well!
